Checking regional audience overlap before booking creators

Assess regional audience fit and possible duplication across creators without inventing a combined unique-reach figure.

Before booking a regional mix, test three separate points: each creator’s geographic fit, whether comparable audience segments overlap, and what a second booking adds. The first is not proof of the second.

Creator location reports can support fit, but follower or viewer geography does not identify shared individuals. Similar content and communities are warning signs only unless an overlap measure compares the audiences themselves.

Compare reports on the same basis

Define the towns or areas the offer serves. For each creator, request recent results from comparable content and the available location breakdown. Record the platform, metric, dates, content scope and geographic level. Keep follower geography apart from viewer or post geography.

In TikTok One, open Explore creators and Creator search. Creator details include country/region, while Audience details include audience country/region; creator profiles also show audience insights such as country/region. Treat these as separate fields, and do not call a geography breakdown a count of people who watched in a particular town unless its metric label says so.

TikTok Ads Manager’s Audience Insights offers a separate overlap check. Its Audience Overlap feature compares a selected TikTok Custom Audience benchmark with up to four other TikTok Custom Audience segments, reporting audience size, targetable audience, overlap percentage and overlap size. This measures the selected segments, not necessarily the organic audiences of the creators being considered.

Audience Insights covers TikTok users active within the last 30 days, using paid and organic TikTok data, and is not campaign-level information. Its audience location, demographics, interests, device and activity are estimates; accuracy may vary, and the estimates are not a guarantee of results.

If one candidate supplies state-level data and another supplies city-level data, keep the difference visible. A state share cannot be converted into a town share. Watch time and reached accounts also measure different things.

Key Metrics in TikTok Audience Insights

Targetable Audience
Users eligible for targeted ads
Overlap Percentage
Percentage of shared users between two segments
Overlap Size
Number of shared users

Examine what a second booking adds

Review the subjects, places and communities each creator usually covers. Two creators who cover the same events with a similar angle may have some common viewers; different topics may offer different reasons for people to engage. These are prompts for questioning the mix, not overlap percentages.

If you have TikTok Custom Audience segments that genuinely represent the audiences being compared, use one as the benchmark and compare the others in Audience Insights. Note the segments compared and the reported overlap percentage and size; the feature allows up to four other segments against a benchmark.

Do not assume a creator’s TikTok One profile geography is a Custom Audience segment. If you cannot compare creator-specific audience segments, mark shared-audience overlap as unknown and use content and community similarities only as a caution, not as a measured result.

FindingBooking question
Both have plausible regional evidence and distinct content jobsDo the comparable audience segments show limited overlap, and does each role meet a different need?
Both cover much the same community and angle, and the compared segments overlapIs the second role valuable enough to justify the duplication risk?
One has only a national location figureDoes that support this service area, or is regional fit still unproven?
Metrics or periods differCan comparable reports and audience segments be obtained, or must the gap remain?

Decide and report within the evidence

Where the compared segments genuinely represent creator audiences, use their overlap percentage and size as evidence about those segments only. If they overlap and the creators have similar angles, the second booking has weaker evidence of distinct audience coverage; limited overlap and different roles support the mix, but do not guarantee results.

Assign each proposed creator a content role and a reason for the mix. If possible overlap is a material budget concern, consider distinct angles, request better evidence or make a later booking after learning from the first. Do not invent a combined unique regional reach figure.
